Walking my dog Louie this morning I so appreciate the signs of spring — crocuses, budding trees, warmer weather. What a marvel! All the life force held in seeds and closed to the chill of winter is now released. It’s powerful and most of us feel a spontaneous urge to be more active and get out and do things. We begin to break through the lethargy and fatigue of winter. Watch out world!!
Some people seem to be like this all the time. Spring people are wiry and thin, quick and sometimes quick to anger. Bold and ambitious ready to climb a mountain. The last thing they might think about is breakfast. Eating might happen in the afternoon — a muffin or a slice of pizza. Coffee in the morning to speed along through the day and alcohol at night to finally relax. Do you see a disaster approaching?
The most important thing if this sounds like you is to get off the computer and sit down and spend some time with your meal. Can you spare 10 minutes? Slow down for a moment and enjoy the food you are taking into your body. Bitter and sour foods can help settle you now. A teaspoon of apple-cider vinegar with a bit of honey in water for a week or two or some lime, lemon in water instead of coffee is a radical idea you might consider. Enjoy some young vegetables, cooked quickly with some millet. Avoid fatty foods for now. Clear and clean like spring — that’s how to eat now.
